Margaret Elizabeth Compton was born the 27th May 1740 in Charles County, Maryland[1] Margaret is the daughter of Matthew Compton Jr.
Margaret married John Compton about 1736.
Margaret's husband John Compton died intestate on or about the 26th July 1766 in Charles County, Maryland. Margaret was the administratrix of John's estates. The final account of the estate filed in Charles County, Maryland follows: "John Compton's Fin'l Acct - Charles County the account of Margaret Compton adm'r of John Compton late of Charles County deceased . . . 1766 of Deputy Corny fees paid Dan'l Jenifer for letters of administration . . . of her trouble and expense in finishing the crop of corn and tobacco on the ground from the 26th day of July the time the deceased died of her expenses burying the deceased . . . The presentatives the widow and three children of the deceased viz: William Compton, Mary Ann Compton and Thomas Compton all infants but their ages not certainly known - William Compton and Stephen Compton of Charles County securities annexed to which was this written to wit: Charles county on the 10th day of May 1768 Margaret Compton the account above mentioned made oath that the above is a true and perfect account of her administration on the estate of John Compton deceased according to the best of her knowledge which said amount after having duly examined the vouchers was part by virtue of a special commission to me for that purpose directed . . ."[2]

Margaret Compton married Edward Wilder on 31 January 1769 in Trinity Parish Newport, Charles, Maryland.[3]
Margaret and her children by John Compton were named in the 3rd of November, 1784 will of her brother, Stephen Compton as follows: "In the name of God Amen I Stephen Compton of Charles County in the state of Maryland . . . Item. I give and bequeath unto my niece Ann Compton daughter of my sister Wilder, one negro girl called Poll with her future increase from the date hereof to her and her heirs - Item. I give and bequeath unto my nephew William S. Compton one young horse or mare of the value of twelve pounds, one feather bed and furniture and one cow and calf and four head of sheep to him & his heirs - Item. I give and bequeath unto my nephew Henry T. Compton one hundred pounds to him and his heirs - . . . I do hereby give and bequeath the residue of my estate to be equally divided amongst my brothers and sisters viz: Zachariah, Matthew, John Alexander Edmund Howard, Margaret Elizabeth and Susannah, by equal portion share and share alike . . . In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this third day of November one thousand seven hundred and eighty four - [signed] Stephen Compton[4]
Margaret's husband Edward Wilder died intestate in Charles County, Maryland about 1786. Margaret applied for and was granted administration of Edward's estate by the court in Charles County, Maryland as follows: "On the 12th June 1786 Letters of Administration was granted on the estate of Edward Wildar to Margaret Wildar Relict of the dec'd & her bond with Robert Slye & Will S. Compton her securities was taken in the sume of one thousand pounds current money for due administration - On the 10th April 1787 the Inventory was returned amounting to L 414.13.9} Samuel Ameny Zach.h Chuner}appraisers"[5]
