John Conant may be the father of John Conant, the possible father of Richard Conant. In 1523, John Conant Sr., of Gittisham, Devon was taxed on £7 in goods and John Conant Jr. was taxed on £4 in goods. It is possible that the John Jr. mentioned in this record was the John of this profile.[1]
A John Conant was buried at Gittisham on 4 September 1560.[2] The record may be for the John of this profile or perhaps his father.
MORE RESEARCH NEEDED: A will was found for a John Connante of Gittisham dated 21 June 1586 and proved 20 September 1586. In it, he names sons Nicholas, John and Matthew and wife Marie. This will may be the will of the John of this profile (he would have been very old when he died) or of his son John (who was thought to have resided in East Budleigh) a completely different John Conant.
