John was born 14 February 1805 in Monongalia County, Virginia.[1] He was the son of Thomas Conaway and Sarah Dew.
He married first Esther Baker on 5 April 1827 in Monongalia County in a ceremony performed by Rev. Jacob Foreman.[2]
He married second, as her second husband, Amelia Ann (McIntire) Moore on 18 September 1853 in Harrison County in a ceremony performed by A. Vincent.[3]
John died on 31 August 1891 in Marion County,[4] and he is buried there in the Rymer Cemetery.[5]
