Reuben was born in 1877 in Indiana. He is the son of Thomas Conner (or O'Conner) and Mary A. Johnston Conner. His parents separated or divorced when he was very young. In 1880, he is one of only two of their children who is living in the household with their mother. Mary is identified as working keeping a toll gate. [1] Reuben died in 1971. [2]

The Find a Grave identifies Reuben's middle name as Wilson rather than Willis.
