Biography

Daily Examiner (Grafton, NSW : Thursday 17 December 1942, page 2 OBITUARY MRS. R. HAYWARD. Mrs. Rachael Hayward (93), who had resided at Leycester street, Lismore, for a number of years, died in the Lismore Base Hospital on Monday afternoon, Mrs. Hayward was a native of the Hunter River district, where, she spent her early years. She was well-known on the Clarence River, where she lived most of her married life. She had resided on the Richmond River for the past 25 years. Two of her brothers, Messrs. James Connor, of Cold stream, and William Connor, ol Grafton, are 84 and 94 years ol age, respectively. Mrs. Hayward was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Connor, of Cold stream. The deceased was twice married and was formerly a Mrs. Samuel Irwin.. She married the late George Hayward at Brushgrove nearly 70 years ago. Mrs. Hay ward is survived by two daugh ters by her first marriage - Mrs. S. Castles, of Melbourne, and Mrs. A. Blair, of Sydney, and by the sec ond marriage two sons and five? daughters. The sons are George Hayward (Cawongla) and John Hayward (Queensland), and the daughters are Mesdames F. Keen (Balgowlah). D. Tulloch (Syd ney), R. Addison_ (New Zealand) G. Amos (Rappville) and J. Caus- ley (Chatsworth). One son, Har vey, predeceased Her. Mrs. Hay ward was buried in Lismore on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. James Beatty. Presbyterian minister of Lismore. conducting a service at the graveside. The pall -bearers were George Hayward (son), J. E Causley (son-in-law), H. R. and E. R. Causley ( grandsons), J Donaldson and A. E. Howell.

Hi Beverley, it looks like she may have married George Hayward in 1876 and died as Rachel Hayward in 1942, aged 92. Do you think that looks right? I've left the various sources as research notes for the moment until you get a chance to review.
