Biography

Rebecca was born in 1765 to unknown parents, most likely in Pennsylvania.

On around January 9, 1786, Rebecca married William Mason, the son of Jacob and Rachel (Tewksbury) Mason, in Phildelphia, Pennsylvania. The young couple initially settled in Redstone, Pennsylvania, and had their oldest two children. In around 1790 William relocated his family to Washington County, Ohio, where the rest of their children were born. Following is a list of their children:

Mary "Polly" (Mason) Sprague/Starling/Chidester (1786-1850)

Rachel (Mason) Starling (1788-1815)

Jane (Mason) Sprague (1792-1827)

James Mason (1793-1848)

William Mason Jr. (1796-1884)

Elizabeth (Mason) Morris (1799-1865)

John Starling Mason (1802-1851)

Nancy (Mason) McAtee (1804-1848)

William Mason was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He worked as a farmer to support his family. Rebecca kept their home and raised their children. She passed away on March 2, 1812, at the age of 47 years. William would live on and marry again. He had a second family by that marriage. William died in 1826 at around 62 years of age. Both Rebecca and William's bodies are buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Adams Township, Washington, Ohio.
