Biography

Rosannah's mother, Charlotte Devol-Scribner was married to Theophilus Powers from 1800 to 1811 and had no children. They divorced and Charlotte wouldn’t marry again until 1816 when she and Abner Scribner wed. Charlotte had a son, Horatio (1812), and a daughter, Rosannah (1814), during her unmarried period. There is no documentation concerning who the father or fathers might have been although the names McAtee and Wing show up in some non-official records. This information was recently discovered and helps to explain all the confusion surrounding Rosannah's names.

I have four different maiden names and two different spellings of the first name. The common thread is the sources indicate Rosannah (Rosanna) Devol-Scribner, (Scribner) (Seribner) (Cook) were married to John Mason and/or the mother of George Winchester Mason.

On March 3, 1831, Rosannah married John Mason. Together they would have eight children, five sons and three daughters as follows:

Horatio N. Mason (about 1833- )

Manley Winfield Mason (1835-1919)

Mandy Mason (about 1836- )

John Mason (1838-after 1870)

George Winchester Mason (1842-1915)

Irena J. (Mason) Starling (about 1844-1880)

Margaret Mason (about 1846- )

Frank Scribner Mason (1848-1928)

Rosannah would live until 1872 when she passed at 58 years of age. Her body is buried in the Marsh Cemetery in Washington County, Ohio, along with John's and many Mason relatives.
