Laura Cook (Smith) was adopted by the Rawlings (aka Rollins) Family around Red Bank, TN; she reported her biological father to be an Englishman last name Smith although her Death Certificate names Bobbie Cook as her father. The 1880 Census confirms adoption (you need to look closely at relationship).
Family History Note:
Laura Smith (RollinsRawlings) was the only survivor of small pox which killed her parents, brothers and sisters. Her father's sister and her husband set Laura in the courthouse and said anyone who wanted her could have her. They did not want her because she was "half-breed" Indian. She was adopted by a Rollins/Rawlings Family around Red Bank, Tennessee. Two Rollins/Rawlings brothers were killed in the Civil War. This was told to Hellen Dugger by Laura Smith Rollins/Rawlings Dugger. Date and place not recorded on orginal document. Laura Smith Rollins/Rawlings reported her biological father to be an Englishman last name Smith. (Death Certificate list Bobbie Cook as her father.)
