John was born in 1787. He was the son of David Cook and Sarah Pullin. John married Jenny Cook on August 31, 1807 in Lincoln County, Kentucky and after her death, he married Jane Church on November 21,1815 in Fayette County, Kentucky. On May 28, 1838, John filed for three land entries in Cass County, Missouri, 160 acres, 80 acres and 80 acres. He passed away in 1840.
John Cook born ca 1787, moved from Kentucky to Missouri about 1829. He bought lots in the town of Harrisonville and in the cemetery just west of Harrisonville. He served as a Justice of the Peace in Grand River Township. He also bought several plots of land in and near Everett, Cass County (then Van Buren County) Missouri.
John Cook's ancestors came from Arran Island, Scotland. They were all seafaring men and John Hamilton Cook, John's great grandfather is claimed to have been a cousin of Captain James Cook, the famous explorer who discovered the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Isalnds and made many other discoveries.
The family moved to Yorkshire, England and it was there that John Hamilton Cook attended college. His wife's name is unknown but they had two children, Valentine, born ca 1732 and Jacob Cook. Their father died when Valentine was six years old. Their mother remarried to a Mr. Sly, who took the two boys to Germany where they were given an education in bother German and English. Valentine could speak several languages, including Indian. It is not known what happen to Mr. Sly, he apparently brought the family to America. They settled in Pennsylvania and later in Virginia and Kentucky.
