Biography

Samuel Cockett was also known as Samuel Cook. After 14 April 1845, Samuel Cockett changed his name to Samuel Cook. Apparently he had a falling out with his family in England over money, came to Canada, and changed his surname.

1861 Census: He appeared as household head on the census of 1861 at Whitchurch Twp., York Co., Ontario, Canada. He was recorded as: Samuel Cook, farmer, born England, Wesleyan Methodist, age 45, male, married, male family member, living in a one storey log house, one family living in it. Caroline Cook, Jesse Cook, Samuel D. Cook, John A. Cook, Henry Cook, James Cook, William Charles Cook, Caroline Frances Cook, David Cook, Albert Cook and Elizabeth Cook also appeared in the household.

1871 Census: He appeared as household head on the census of 22 April 1871 at Scott Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. He was listed as: Cook, Samuel, male, 58, born England, Wesleyan Methodist, of English origin, farmer, married. Caroline Cook, Jesse Cook, Samuel D. Cook, John A. Cook, James Cook, William Charles Cook, Caroline Frances Cook, David Cook, Albert Cook, Elizabeth Cook and George Cook also appeared in the household.

Caroline Cook, Caroline Frances Cook, Albert Cook, Elizabeth Cook and George Cook also appeared in the household.

1891 Census: He appeared as household head on the census of 18 April 1891 at Scott Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario, Canada. He is listed as: Cook, Samuel, male, age 75, married, head, born England, both parents born England, of English origin, Methodist, Gentleman, able to read and write. Caroline Cook also appeared in the household.

Cook-16481 and Cockett-460 are not ready to be merged because: I will let Ted Cockett approve this merge. Some of the data appears better in the other trees, is that data lost on merge.

Cook-16481 and Cockett-460 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. Samuel Cockett changed his name to Cook, so "Cockett" is the correct Last Name at Birth.
