Biography

Robert Cook's will was recorded on 1 Jan 1780 in Surry County, North Carolina. In it he names his wife, Mary, and the following children:

  1. John
  2. Abel
  3. William
  4. Mary Blackburn
  5. Thomas
  6. Ursula Burns(?)
  7. Elizabeth Cook

He also mentions sons-in-law Richard Beasley and Samuel Taylor and granddaughters, Daisey (sp) & Faisner (sp) Cook.

I give demise and dispare of the same in the following manner first of all I desire that all my Lawful Debts be paid. I also lend unto my beloved wife Mary the plantation where I now live with Tract of land there unto belonging, also all my stock except one black mare & colt and too cows together with all my house goods, Except one bed and & furniture during her natural Life and after her decease to be equally divided among my children which none lives with me to it John Cook, Abel Cook, William Cook, Mary Blackburn, Thomas Cook, as I have yet too more Children. I also leave each of them five pounds to Urusla Burns(spl) and Elizabeth Cook, & I also give to John Cook bed & furniture, I also give to my son-in-law Richard Beasley my black mare, and also give my son-in-law Samuel Taylor my black horse colt. I also give my grand daughter Daisey(spl) Cook one cow. I also give to grand daughter Faisner(spl) Cook one cow. I like wife constitute, make and ordain my friends Ambrose Blackburn and Thomas Eavins Excecutors to this my last Will and Testament and I also thereby declare, revoke & deemed all and every other former testament, wills, decrees, bequeaths and executors by me and any wife before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this to be my last Will and Testament in writhing. Whereas of I have here unto set my hand and seal this Forth Day of Jan. In the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty and in the Fifth year of American Independency,

On the 1784 Tax Lists in the Blackburn's District of what is now Stokes County, Mary Cook has 300 acres, Thomas Cook has 250 acres. Mary is listed as Thomas's mother. Also in the district in 1784 are John, Abel, and William Cook.

My name is Robert Cook direct descendant of this Robert Cook. I have paperwork up to my children on this family tree. I still live in Surry County on part of the original property. Also I know where the original land grant for the property from Lord Granville.

I am descended from this Robert's grandson, James Henderson Cook, the son of John Cook.
