John Dillard Cook likely died in Scott County, Kentucky about June 1832, as his will was proved over the June/September 1832 sessions of the court there.[7]
Research Notes
Some researchers have him being baptized as John Cook, son of William and Mary on 12 Jan 1752 in Wheathampstead, Hertford, England citing a christening record.[8] Other researchers have him being baptized as John Cook, son of William and Mary on 20 Apr 1753 in Earl Stoke, Wiltshire, England citing a baptismal record.[9] Some researchers have him being born as John Dillard Cook, son of Mordecai Cook in 1753 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England citing Edmund West's Family Data Collection.[10] The profile connected as his father here, William Mordecai Cook, appears to be an amalgamation of at least some of these potential sources. The birth date/location and parentage of John Dillard Cook appear to be uncertain at this point. More research needs to be done in this area.
Some researchers have his death date listed as 21 Aug 1828. This appears to be based on the premise that he was a Naval Officer with a rank of chaplain citing a reference to a John Cook who died on that date that appeared in a list of Naval Officers.[11] The will of this John Cook appeared to be proved in Scott County, Kentucky over the June/September 1832 sessions of the court there, indicating that he likely died shortly before the initiation of the proving of the will.[7] He also appeared to be enumerated in the 1830 Scott County, Kentucky census.[2] It appears unlikely that he was the Naval Chaplain John Cook that died on 21 Aug 1828.
Some researchers have his death location as Stamping Ground in Scott County, Kentucky, but no sources are cited for that info.
