Biography

Wass born about 1730 in Brunswick County, Virginia Colony .

He married Margaret Jones, daughter of Robert Jones Jr and Mary J Van Meter, about 1750 in Lunenburg County, Virginia Colony .

According to conflicting information, William Cook Jr married Margaret Jones, daughter of Robert Jones Jr and Mary J Van Meter, in Halifax County, Virginia Colony .

William and Margaret Jones Cook II joined some half dozen families in forming a settlement at the Forks of Elkhorn in 1784.

Shortly after arriving, William died and left Margaret with a large family responsibility. Margaret became a charter member of Forks of Elkhorn Church in 1788.

In the last Indian battle of Franklin County at Innis Bottom on April 28, 1792, Margaret Cook lost two sons, Jesse and Hosea, son-in-law Lewis Mastin and two grandsons, sons of William and Bathsheba Cook Dunn. ^

Female Heroism was exemplified when a band of hundred Indians were fought off by the Cook wives and is recorded in history books.

The children of these pious Baptist parents were Rachel, Bathsheba, Helen, Rhoda, William III, Jesse, Seth, Margaret, Hosea, Abraham and Eunice. [1]

He was a member of in Cumberland Parish, Lunenburg County, Virginia Colony , in 1751

He had property surveyed on November 13, 1757 400 acres on both sides of the Banister River, Halifax County, Virginia Colony .

He received a land grant on September 26, 1760 400 acres on both sides of Fox Run of Black Water River, Halifax County, Virginia Colony .

Colonial Poll lists between 1764 and 1769 in Halifax County, Virginia.

William registered to vote on July 17, 1765 in Halifax County, Virginia Colony

He registered to pay taxes in 1767 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia Colony

He bought property on May 21, 1767 210 acres on Pigg River, Hatchet, Halifax County, Virginia Colony .

He sold property to Peter Vardeman on August 24, 1769 50 acres on Pigg River, Pittsylvania County, Virginia Colony

William Cook Jr sold property to James Rentfro Sr on September 23, 1773 220 acres on Fox Run, Pittsylvania (now Franklin) County, Virginia Colony

William Cook Jr registered to pay taxes in 1778 in Henry County, Virginia.

He emigrated from Henry Co, Virginia to Kentucky County, Virginia, after September 26, 1783

He sold property to Peter Saunders on July 22, 1784 354 acres at Hatchet Run on both sides of Pigg River, Henry County, Virginia. Book 2, Page 495

William died before May 22, 1790 in Woodford County, Virginia (now Kentucky). He left a widow, Margaret

Conflicting information indicates that he died about 1784 in Fayette County, Kentucky.
