Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Rebecca (Cocke) Taliaferro was a Virginia colonist.

Rebecca was the daughter of Richard Cocke and Elizabeth Hartwell. She married Richard Taliaferro.

She was named Rebecca Taliaferro in her father's will dated the 13th of September in 1771, proved in Sussex Court the 21st day of April 1772. Richard Cocke named his son-in-law Richard Taliaferro, Sr. and grandson Richard Taliaferro, Jr. as two of his five named co-executors. Rebecca was named in the will and administration of Richard Taliaferro in 1789.[1]

Rebecca Taliaferro appears to have been paying personal property tax in Brunswick County on 20 slaves as of 1807.[2]

Note: Removed spouse John Stith 9 Aug 2021 citing two primary source documents proving this Rebecca Cocke was the wife of Richard Taliaferro. Removed death date because she clearly was living in 1789. ~H. Kleine

Cocke-17 and Cooke-1057 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles represent the same daughter of Richard Cocke who married to Richard Taliaferro, named son-in-law in Cocke's will.
posted on Cooke-1057 (merged) by Honi Kleine
update: merged Cocke-55 - with birth 1733 & parents/siblings (no spouse/children/death info) - into Cocke-17, which had husband John Stith-22, son Jesse Stith-97, and death April 1787 (no parents/birth info)

Cocke-55 and Cocke-17 appear to represent the same person because: could y'all take a look at these - not enough info is given for either for me to tell if they're supposed to be for the same person or not, but you might know more. Thanks!
