Jim Cooke Jr.
All Mgrs of this profile, I reiterate:
I wonder if you have any proof that Abraham's father was named William? Or that William died in 1650 in New Kent? Please post. I am a direct descendant of Abraham Cooke and Martha Clayton, and am trying to extend my tree back beyond Abraham.
Might I suggest John Cooke and Mary Hill as possible parents. They were married in 1654 in St Michael's, Barbados. "Margery" was born to them in 1656. An "Abraham" was baptized, "son of John", in St Michaels' in Dec 1661.
We know that the couple (Abe & Martha) were married by 1689: a deed in Old Rappahannock Co, Va proves that. We know that Abraham was "of New Kent" in 1704: a Power of Attorney in King William, 1704, proves that.
Parish Processions in the Vestry Book of St Peter's, and of St Paul's, indicates that Abe lived, prior to 1718, in the area just SE of the Hanover Courthouse. By 1718 he had patented land at "Verdon", Hanover County, on the Pamunkey, and by 1722 he had acquired 900+ acres. Abraham Cooke "junior" patented his land, on the ridge b/w Pamunkey and Little Rivers, in 1722.
Also, Abraham Cooke, Jr died in Lunenburg (now Mecklenburg) on Butcher's Creek in 1748. We now believe that Abraham Cooke SENIOR died at Verdon ca1730.

PS: I would also add this: IF this "William Cooke" is the William who married Hannah Blount, and is of the lineage of Francis Cooke of the Mayflower, then NOT related and NOT father of Abraham. YDNA testing has clearly shown that the Mayflowers, the Gloucester County, VA Cookes (Mordecai Cooke) and the lineage of Abraham Cooke of "Verdon", ::Hanover Co, VA, are NOT related.
