Note: He owned a large estate in Cotton, Westhorpe, Finningham, Wyverstone, and Mendlesham, co. Suffolk, and held an official position in the cellar of Queen Elizabeth. Considerable information about him is found in the suit in Chancery of Raynberd v. Cooke. His arms are given in the Blois MS. of 1655 (preserved in the Library of the Suffolk Archealogical Society, Bury St. Edmunds.) as Sable, on a shevron argent between three demilions rampant or as many cinquefoils B.[5]

Note: The Will of William Cooke alias Carew, of Cotton (co. Suffolk), Gentleman, dated 1 August 1572. My lands in the parishes of Cotton and Mendlesham and my other lands in Suffolk to my wife Elizabeth for life, with remainder in tail male to my eldest son, George, remainder in tail male to my second son, Ambrose, remainder in tail male to my third son, Peter, remainder in tail male to my fourth son, Gerald, remainder in tail male to my youngest son, Thomas, and remainder to the right heirs of William Cooke. To Thomas Cromer, my wife's brother, and to my godson William Preston. Thomas Cromer to be the governor of my sons, if my wife Elizabeth die, until they reach the age of twenty-rour years. Ifg Thomas Cromer die, then my kinsman Lionell Morse of Hoxne is to have the same charge. My lease of Wyverston and of Parear's Close in Westhorpe.
