Biography

Don (Cooke) Donovan was born in Washington State.
SGT Don (Cooke) Donovan served in the United States Army in World War II
Service started: 13 Apr 1936
Unit(s): Qurtermaster Corps
Service ended: 04 Nov 1948

Henry Cooke was born 5 Oct 1919, in Washington State, per his Official Birth record, although later in life he used 1917 as his birth year. His legal father is listed as Ray Cooke on his birth certificate. See notes below about his DNA/biologcal father and how this was determined. When his mother remarried, he assumed his Step-Fathers name and was from then on, known as Don F Donovan. One man, 3 surname connections,

He Served in the US Army from 1936-1939, and again from 1945 until 1948. He is assumed to have been in the National Guard in the interim, based on his 1945 enlistement record (Source: National Guard in Federal Service, within 3 months of Discharge). His records were sadly a victim of the 1973 fire at NPRC, so reconstuction has been a pain.

His rank at the end of WWII was Grade 4 (Sergeant) as reflected on his Grave Marker, but his discharge papers 2 months after the war reflects the rank re-structing post-WWII as Grade 4 (Corporal).

Notes on current accepted NPE theory

Y-DNA tests have proven this line actually traces back to George Reeves, Sr. of Grayson County, Virginia, and does not connect genetically to any known and documented genetic Cook/e lines (or Donovan lines). Many months of looking into this using many sources, tactics and even migration mapping of the Cooke males from Massachusetts to Washington, their spouses, and the Reeves descendants from Virginia to Washington/Oregon, and their spouses. Given Clara Waterman's location at the window of conception and subsequent birth, and one William Robert Reeves, either in transit at the time, or working (as a teamster) with the oppurtunity to be in contact with Clara, have shown to be the only viable candidates for the NPE causing Reeves Y-DNA in a surnamed Cooke. This hypothesis has been reviewed by additional researchers in the Reeves line and it is agreed to be the most likely NPE point. Depite Henry's (Don's) Birth Certificate from Washington State liting his legal father as Ray Welcome Cooke and Clara Waterman, his connection here will be changed to reflect the DNA connection to the Reeves line.

Feb 2024 - Recent discoveries, and many tested hypotheses, have revealed a strong possibility the Father listed on Henry's Birth Certificate, is not his Biological father. Time and place data-points, as well as Y chromosome DNA data, is strongly pointing to a Reeves being the Biological Father (NPE/Misattribution). Migrations of both this Cooke lines migration from Massachusetts, and the Migrations of the Reeves from Virginia, were "mapped" and analyzed. This whittled the possible NPE to within 2 generations of the Cooke Spouses and Reeves Males being in clos proximity. Further digging into records, led to the mother of Henry being the cause. One day, I may get back to adding the "true" bloodline of Henry here, but this has been recorded/published in early 2023 for public scrutiny on a few other sites (ancestry, The Reeves Project, FamilyTreeDNA-Surname project and a couple others). The consensus amongst reeves researchers, DNA analysts and myself, comes up just shy of proving 100% fact that Henry Cooke is a Biological Reeves. But everything points in that direction.
