OBITUARY - ARTHUR GITTOS COOKE
A foundation member of the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Club and a member of the board of directors of John Burns and Co., Ltd., for 26 years, Mr. Arthur Gittos Cooke died yesterday at the age of 76. He began his commercial career with John Burns as an office junior, and rose to the position of head of the indenting and buying department. He was appointed to the Board of Directors in 1914, and retained his seat until 1940 when he retired after a total period of 51 years' service with the firm. At the time of the last war, Mr. Cooke took a prominent part in collecting money for the Belgian Patriotic Fund, and received a written acknowledgment of his services from the late King Albert. In his younger days Mr. Cooke took a prominent part In football, athletics and boating. He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.

OBITUARY - MR Arthur G. Cooke
The death occurred yesterday at hia residence, 12 Waiata Avenue, Rerauera, of Mr rthur Gittos Cooke for 26 years a member of the board of directors of John Burns and Co., Ltd., at the age of 76. Mr Cooke was educated at the Auckland Grammar School, where he was noted as a keen Rugby footballer and runner, some of his track records still standing today after more than half a century. He was also very interested in boating. Beginning his commercial career at John Burns as an office junior, Mr Cook rose to the position of Head of the Indenting and Buying Department, and joined the board of directors of the firm in 1914. In 1935 he retired from working in an active capacity, but retained his seat on the Board until September, 1940, when he retired after a total period of 51 years' service to the firm. He was a foundation member of the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Club, and was one of its trustees. About the tame of the last war he spent much time and effort collecting money for the Belgian Patriotic Fund and received a written acknowledgment of his services from the late King Albert of the Belgians. Mr Cooke is survived by. his wife, formerly Miss Ethel Milne, of Auckland, a son and two daughters.
