Euclid Monroe Cooke was the son of Henry Cook and Mary Bryan Cook. Euclid often went by his middle name Monroe and it is sometimes spelled Munro and Munroe. At some point he added an "e" to his last name and all official documents - his enlistment papers and all US Census records showing Euclid as an adult- show his last name with at e at the end. Census documents from his childhood while still living with his parents have his last name as Cook.
Euclid married three times and had at least 7 children.
Euclid served in the Civil War rising to the rank of Second Lieutenant in Company C of the 38th Regiment of the North Carolina Infantry of the Confederate States. He was wounded at the battle of Chancellorsville I May, 1863.
Cencus data indicates that in 1850 he was age 7 and living with his parents and grandmother in Alamance, North Carolina. In 1860 he was age 17 and living with his parents in Alamance, North Carolina.
Euclid died in North Carolina and is buried at the Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Mebane, Alamance County, North Carolina, USA.
