Biography

Mary (Cook) Humber was born in Leicestershire, England.

Mary Ann Cook was born in 1811 in Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of Joshua Cook and Ann Phipps. ^[1][2][3]

Mary Ann Cook was married to Richard Humber on 13 Apr 1830 at St. Margaret, Leicester. ^[4]

By 1841, Mary and Richard Humber (both recorded as age 30) had six children, John (10), James (8), Mary Ann (6), Eliza (4), Lizer (2) and Frederick (0). They were living in Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire. ^[5]

In 1851, Mary Ann (39, a framework knitter) and her husband, Richard Humber (41, a framework knitter) had eight children, John (20), James (18), Mary Ann (16), Eliza (14), Elizabeth (12), Frederick (10), Emma Jane (7) and Christopher (2) living with them in Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire. ^[6]

In 1861, Mary Ann (49, a stocking framework knitter) and her husband, Richard Humber (53, a stocking framework knitter) had four children still at home - Eliza (24), Frederick (19), Emma Jane (16) and Christopher (12). Joseph Smith (19) was boarding with them (Joseph later married Emma Jane Humber). ^[7]

In 1871, Mary Ann (60, a FW knitter) and her husband, Richard Humber (62, a FW knitter) had one son still at home, Christopher (22, a FW knitter). The family were still living in Barrow upon Soar. ^[8]

In 1881, Mary Ann Humber (70, a seamstress) and her husband, Richard Humber (71, FWK) were living at 21 Bridge Street, Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire, along with their son, Christopher (31, FWK). ^[9]

By 1891, Mary Ann was a widow. She was living at 11 Bridge Street with her son, James's family. The census has her down as daughter in 1891 but at 81 years of age, that is evidently incorrect as she is the eldest member of the household. ^[10]

Mary Ann Humber died in 1893 in Barrow upon Soar. ^[11]
