Mary was a daughter of Jacob Cooke and his wife Damaris (Hopkins) Cooke. According to Plymouth Vital Records, she was born 12 January 1657/8 (i.e., 1658) in Plymouth, Massachusetts. [1] In Dawes-Gates Ancestral Lines, Mary W. Ferris reported the birthdate as 22 January 1658;[2] the 10-day difference is apparently due to her accounting for the 10-day date shift when the calendar was changed in 1752.
Mary married John Rickard, son of John Rickard, in Plymouth in about 1678. There has been some uncertainty as to whether Mary Cooke married that John Rickard or his first cousin John Rickard, the son of Giles Rickard. Both men had wives named Mary. In an article entitled "Which John Rickard married Mary Cooke?" in the August 1983 Mayflower Quarterly,[3] Eugene Stratton presented evidence that Mary Cooke's husband was John the son of John. As described by "jrich" in a personal genealogy page, Stratton based this conclusion primarily on a comparison of signatures.[4]
Children
John Rickard and Mary Cooke are recorded as the parents of seven children. All but the last two named are listed in Plymouth Vital Records:[5]
John Rickard, born 26 February 1679.[6] He apparently died before February 1684.
Mary's husband John Rickard made his on 20 April 1711, and his estate was inventoried 20 June 1712. His will provided bequests Mary, sons John and James, and daughters Mercy [married name not legible], Mary Rickard, Hester Rickard, and Elizabeth Rickard. [9]
Mary died, not long after her husband, on 28 August 1712. She is buried near him, at Burial Hill in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Her gravestone inscription reads: [22]

The following records give Joannah Rickard Whitton [Rickard-95]'s parents as John Rickard and Mary COOK, not Snow as Joannah is currently liked to Rickard-186 :

I figured out the problem and why there is confusion as to whether Damaris Hopkins' husband is John or Jacob. If you look in the silver book for the Cooke family there is an error. The children of Francis Cook and Hester Mahieu list two Johns rather than John and Jacob. The second John should read Jacob. I looked at the Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988 and the second John looks a lot like Jacob. But, if you look closely you can tell it's Jacob. Whoever did the extract didn't read carefully.
Mary Cooke who married John Rickard was the daughter of Jacob Cooke and Damaris (Hopkins) Cooke. She was not a daughter of Jacob' s father, John. Her birth is recorded in Plymouth Vital Records in 1658, not 1648.
I have added an unmerged match to Cooke-40, which shows the birthdate and parents I noted above.
I've already pointed this info out on the other relevant profiles.
