John was baptised at St Martin in the Fields on 30 October 1575.

In the Will of his father, William Cooke, made 6 March 1588/proved 9 December 1589, John is referred to as "my second son" and was bequeathed "a pair of silver flagons that my father gave me by his will Also I give unto him a fair standing cup with a cover and a fair gilt bowl with a cover, the which my good brother-in-law, my Lord Russell, deceased, and my good sister Bacon gave him at his christening", he is also devised the manor of Hockford in Devon.

In the Will of his mother, Frances Cooke nee Grey, made 31 December 1607/proved 11 February 1608, John is bequeathed all the furniture that is in the lodge at Hartwell Park, Northamptonshire. Frances also bequeaths to her mother, Lady Mary Grey widow (Mary Capell, formerly Grey nee Browne), a gold ring set with five diamonds and requests that whatever her mother might have "bestowed on me had I outlived her" she would give to her two sons John Cooke and Edward Cooke - In the Will of Mary Grey otherwise Mary Capell widow, made 17 July 1615/proved 15 July 1617, there is no mention of either John or Edward Cooke.

this person, if they actually even existed, does not belong to the parents I have detached him from. No evidence of a son named John Cooke born to Richard and Alice (Caunton) Cooke. Richard Cooke's will makes no mention of a four year old son John. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Will_of_Richarde_Cooke_of_Guidiehall%2C_Essex_1579 and notes left on the profile of Cooke-80
