Biography

Azariah^[1] was born in 1731 in Brimfield in the Massachusetts Colony, the son of Azariah Cooley and Rebekah Dicks.

Military

Private Azariah Cooley. Sr., born 07 March 1731 in Brimfield, Massachusetts, died Deerfield, Massachusetts, 28 February 1778, husband to Eliner Warriner, born 07 August 1739, served Massachusetts during the American Revolution: 1) LEX. ALRM,CAPT.JAMES SHERMAN 2) COL. PYNCHEON. Their children included Eli Cooley, born 01 May 1764.^[2] Azariah was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars as well as in the Revolution, making descendants eligible for membership in both the Society of Colonial Wars and Sons/Daughters of the American Revolution.

He married 19 Apr 1756 Eleanor Warriner, daughter of William Warriner-- one of the earliest settlers of Deerfield, Mass. They stayed in Brimfield and had nine children together.

Death

Azariah spent his later years in Bloody Brook, Deerfield, Mass., where he died Feb. 28, 1778.^[3] (Discrepancy in death year to sort out -- possible Julien calendar issue.) A second source lists Azariah's death at age 46 in Brimfield, Massachusetts, on Feb. 28, 1777^[4]

After his death, his widow married second (in 1778) Samuel Bernard; then married third (1789) Nathan Frary.

Eleanor died 7 Dec 1819 in Deerfield.

Azariah served as a Private in Captain James Sherman's Company, Colonel Charles Pynchon's Regiment of Militia, marching on the alarm of April 19, 1775.^[5]
