William Hunter Cooper was born on the 14 June 1831 in Sunderland, Durham, England, the son of Thomas Cooper and Ann (Hunter) Cooper .
William married Jane Maria Hutchinson on the 18 December 1854 in Bishop-Wearmouth, Durham.
Twelve children were born to William and Jane. Two children were born in Durham and the following ten in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand.
In 1858 William and Jane decided to emigrate to New Zealand. Along with their children Thomas, aged 2 1/2, and infant Charles Alfred they travelled on the Indiana, leaving London on the 2 August 1858 and arriving in Lyttelton on the 23 November 1858. [1]
William died on 26 Jul 1894 in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand aged 63.
He passed away in 1894.[2]
