Biography

Uncertain Origin

David Cooper may have been a son of Marcome Cooper (b 1699 Warwickshire, England), and his wife, Sarah (Unknown), but there is no evidence.[1] (Alternate birth date is 1738.)

David may have been one of three brothers who immigrated from England to Virginia and settled initially on the James River.[2] Again, this is family tradition; we have no evidence.

An alternate theory is that David Cooper was born in Virginia, a son of William Cooper and Elizabeth Lawrence and had siblings: George 1715, Ann 1717, John 1720, Marvin 1721, David 1725, Thomas, & James.[3] Evidence is lacking.

David's birth date c. 1725 is an estimate, based on the estimated birth date of his eldest child.

Marriage

David married Elizabeth Wilder. Elizabeth's maiden name may be based on family tradition; evidence is sought.

Property

On 19 November 1751, David Cooper, Gentleman, for £7 purchased 100 acres on Peachtree Creek joining the North Fork in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. On 25 August 1755, David sold this same 100 acres for £30.

On 13 June 1760, a grant for 510 acres in Edgecombe County was issued to David D. Cooper, a resident of St. Mary's Parish, Edgecombe County, North Carolina.

Death and Legacy

David died May 7, 1792 at Thickety, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. David Cooper's will dated 17 March 1792 and found in Box 7, Packet 15, Spartanburg, South Carolina, names his wife Elizabeth and their ten children as his heirs. His son "Malleki" [sic] was named as his executor.[4]

His will was written on March 17, 1792

Cooper-20138 and Cooper-2306 appear to represent the same person because: I'd like to merge these profiles but keep all of the information for the profile you manage. It seems like someone in my family did not research carefully enough and I don't want to have unsubstantiated parents for this person. The resulting profile can be totally under your management.

I corrected the marriage location because the United States did not exist until 1778.
