Mary Cooper was born October 15, 1651, the daughter of Thomas Cooper and Sarah Slye. On June 30, 1670, Mary married (1) Isaac Colton, son of George Colton and Deborah (Gardner) Colton. Mary and Isaac made their home in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Her father was killed by Indians in October 1675, before the burning of Springfield. Mary was captured by Indians March 26, 1676, as she with others, was going to meeting, was badly wounded and left for dead, but she recovered. Her husband died before October 18, 1701, when she married (2) Edward Stebbins, of Springfield, as his second wife. Edward was the uncle of her daughter Rebecca's husband. Edward died August 30, 1742, and Mary returned to Longmeadow, and lived with her son, Captain George Colton, and died at his home.[1]
