Biography

William moved around a lot. He was born in Twichenham, Middlesex

He married Mary in November 1847 in Wandsworth, London

He was living in Cardiff, St. Marys, Glamorganshire, Wales at time of the 1851 and 1871 censuses but in 1861 census at St Giles, Reading, Berkshire, England so obviously moved back and forth between the two places.

2rd November 1860 he was in Cardiff County court for insolvency: "WILLIAM GODFREY COOPER, Licensed Victualler,' Dealer in Tobacco, and Builder."[1]

On the 11th of October 1862, he was found to be bankrupt. At the time he was innkeeper of the "The Little Crown" in Horn St, Reading.[2], [3]

12 November 1862 an Order of Discharge was granted for his bankruptcy [4]

Children: George Cooper, Henrietta Cooper, Alice Cooper, John M Cooper, Joseph H Cooper, Owen W Cooper and Elizabeth Cooper

His occupation at the time of the 1871 and 1881 censuses was carpenter.

In 1891, aged 68, he was still married, occupation waiter at an inn. He was living at Diamond St, Cardiff.

His funeral notice in 1898 also gives his occupation as waiter, living at 196 Carlisle St. Died 6 September. In a 2011 add to rent 196 Carlisle St it was described as a "Spacious four bedroom family home with two separate reception rooms. Kitchen. First floor bathroom. Gas central heating. Garden to rear"
