Biography

Joel Cooper was born about 1793 in Tennessee, United States.^[1][2]

He is thought to have married Reuhama Deason.

However the 1850 and 1860 census records list his wife as Rebecca. However he did have daughter Ruhama in 1843, suggesting that name does have a link to him. Possibly Rebecca was his second wife, married 1830-1840 based on census information.

In the 1820 US census, Joel Cooper, age 26-44 (born 1776-1794) was living in Bedford, Tennessee, with two female children. His wife was age 16-25, so born 1795-1804.^[3]

In the 1830 US census, Joel Cooper, age 30-39 (born 1791-1800) was living in Bedford, Tennessee, with five male children and three female children. His wife was age 30-39, so born 1791-1800. Possibly this was still Ruhamma.^[4]

In the 1840 US census, Joel Cooper, age 40-49 (born 1791-1800) was living in Bedford, Tennessee, with five male children and six female children. His wife was age 30-39, so born 1801-1810. Possibly this was now Rebecca.^[5]

In the 1850 US census, Joel Cooper, age 57 (born 1793) was living in Marshall, Tennessee, with wife Rebecca Cooper (39, born about 1811), and with children Syntha, Elizabeth, George, Rhuhama, Nathan, Drucilla, Gemma and Salina.^[1]

In the 1860 US census, Joel Cooper, age 67 (born 1793) was living in Hickman, Tennessee, with wife Rebecca Cooper (46, born 1814) and children Elizabeth, G W, Ruhama, N W, Drucilla, Disa, Beshaba, Susan, J P and Mary. He was a farmer.^[2]

Joel Cooper died in 1865 in Hickman County, Tennessee, United States. He was buried at Lambert Cemetery, Hickman County, Tennessee.^[6]
