Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 4th Earl of Shaftesbury was born on 9 February 1711. He was the son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury and Jane Ewer. He married, firstly, Lady Susan Noel, daughter of Baptist Noel, 3rd Earl of Gainsborough and Lady Dorothy Manners, on 12 March 1724. He married, secondly, Hon. Mary Bouverie, daughter of Jacob des Bouverie, 1st Viscount Folkestone and Mary Clarke, on 20 March 1759. Anthony Ashley Cooper, 4th Earl of Shaftesbury, died on 27 May 1771.[1]
Anthony became 4th Earl of Shaftesbury while an infant.[2]

I'm a little confused about the last name on this profile. Seems like it should have been merged in the other direct, i.e. into the single surname, Cooper.
I'm not terribly familiar with this family or the naming standards of that time. Can you enlighten me?
