<Information updated from Phillipson family tree Original information by Max Cooper Occupation given 21 November 1842 aged 28 as Carpenter at Chelsea, London. Residing at Chelsea, London August 1855 immigrated to Steiglitz, Victoria, Australia August 1855 aged 30 at Stieglitz occupation Surveyor in Mines. Married Emma Bradnam 15/10/1866 aged 41 Death 11/3/1895 and buried at Stieglitz. Previously married to Mary Ann White 5/11/1849 at Westminster, London, England./>

James second marriage to Emma Bradnam resulted in 7 children but only two survived the infant years. One child Edwin (My Grandfather) was born 3rd August 1870 and Arthur born 20 January 1875. The Coopers lived on the corner of Clow and Stawell St where Edwin and Arthur attended school in Steiglitz. Edwin was employed by the Victorian Railways Department 1/11/1889 until 20/11/1890 and from 1/2/1892 to 17/1/1893 as Chainman in a survey party on trail and permanent survey. Active in his field and his conduct was excellent, his services were dispenced with owing to completion of work.
