Biography

There is a marriage bond for Willis Cooper and Elizabeth ALEXANDER and their marriage about 1781. Bondsman was John Hoskins and witness Thomas Hoskins.[1] Elizabeth appears with Willis in a deed: Tyrrell Co. NC Deeds vol 12 p100 4 Oct 1795 Willis & Elizabeth COOPER, planter to William HANDCOCK. 100 acres on Sound side begin at the sound on the east side of John ALEXANDERs line, run along marked trees to a pine on a branch near PHELPS Neck then along swamp to FOXs line then along FOX line to the sound and along to 1st station. Signed Willis (X) & Eliz. (X) COOPER. Wit: Joseph ALEXANDER, A. ALEXANDER. Oct term 1795.

There is a marriage bond for the marriage in 1800 of Willis Cooper to Joanna Davis (she was nee Phelps).[2] Bondsman was Abraham Jennett and witness was C. Spruill, clk.

Willis made his, in March 1809, and it was probated at July Term of court that year.[3]


The will of Willis Cooper lists the following children: Nichedemus Cooper, Joseph Cooper, John Cooper, Luraney Cooper, Ziilpha Cooper, Nancy Bateman and Betsey (Elizabeth) Cooper.
