Biography
Catharine (also spelled Katherine or Catherine) Copp, born on October 7, 1775, in New London, Connecticut, was the ninth child of Rachel Denison & Joseph Copp.
She married Jasper Avery on 8 Jul 1795 [1]. Their children were:
- Frederick Avery (1796 - 1878)
- Charlotte Elizabeth (Avery) Williams (1799-1849)
- Jasper Avery (Jun 1800 - 1810)
Jasper Avery was a captain of a ship who died 29 Mar 1800 in the Atlantic Ocean during one of his runs between New London and Savannah, Georgia. After his death, Catharine then married on 8 Jul 1805 Jasper Morgan (1783 - 1869), and they had three children together:
- Griswold Copp Morgan, b. 22 May 1806
- Edward Denison Morgan, b. 8 Feb 1811; 21st governor of New York State
- Catherine A. Morgan, b. 26 Oct 1815; married 1) James Rowland; 2) Charles Dresback
Catharine (Copp/Avery) Morgan died on July 7, 1822 at Washington, Massachusetts, however her grave is in Palisado Cemetery, Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA: Find A Grave: Memorial #81698968
