Biography

Dorothy was the daughter of Robert Corbet and his wife Margaret. She married Philip Kynaston.[1]

There are competing claims as to the identity of the wife of Philip Kynaston, father of Roger Kynaston. In the Visitation of Shropshire for Corbet (page 135), the wife of Philip Kynaston of Walford is Dorothy Corbet, daughter of Robert Corbet and Margaret Mallory.[2]

But in the same Visitation, in the pedigree for Kynaston (page 294), Philip Kynaston of Walford married Alice the daughter of Robert Corbett and they had Roger, Thomas, and John.[3]

These dueling Visitations could cancel each other out. But there is stronger contemporary evidence that the wife of Philip Kynaston and mother of Roger was Alice:

Haec indentura testatur quod Rogerus Kynaston filius et haeres Philippi Kynaston dominus de Walford et Ordeley in com. Salop gentilman et Alicia Kynaston mater eiusdem Rogeri in sua pura et legitima viduatate tradiderunt concesserunt et ad feodi firma' demiserunt Willelmo Lyte de Salop merchaunt unam parcellum terrae vocutur Ordeley.

This indenture attests that Roger Kynaston, son and heir of Philip Kynaston, lord of Walford and Ordeley in Salop, gentleman, and Alice Kynaston, mother of the same Roger in her pure and legitimate widowhood, have delivered, granted and demised to William Lyte of Shrewsbury, merchant, one piece of land called Ordeley. 18 Edward 4 (1478-9)

Rogerus Kynaston filius et haeres Philippi Kynaston de Walford in com. Salop, defuncti, salutem. Noveritis me praefatum Rogerum consessisse et confirmasse Alicia matri meae nuper uxori praedicti Philippi quandam annuitatem sexaginta solidorum.

Roger Kynaston, son and heir of Philip Kynaston, of Walford in Salop, deceased, greetings. Be it known that I the aforesaid Roger, have granted and confirmed to Alice my mother, once the wife of the aforesaid Philip, an annuity of sixty shillings. 21 Edward 4 (1481-2)[4]

Is her husband Philip Kynaston of Walford, Baschurch, Shropshire 1419-aft 1475 the son of Griffith Kynaston and Margaret Jane Hoord ? I have a possible marriage in 1427 at Moreton Corbet. According to 1623 Visitation p 294 Philippus was the son and he married Alicia daughter of Rob't Corbett of Moreton. I have Alice/Dorothy as my entry - still looking feasible to me.
