Biography

Edward Corbin was born about 1685 in Baltimore County, Maryland, the son of Nicholas Corbin and Alice Bryen. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Edward married Jane Wilkinson before 1707, based on the birth of their first known child.[5] They are believed to have had eight children, including:

Nicholas Z Corbin
Jane Corbin
Edward Corbin

Edward died between 1758 and 1768 (see Research Notes).

Research Notes

Many sources say he was born ca. 1676-8, but he did not appear on the tax rolls until 1701, which puts his birthdate closer to 1685. The later date makes more sense if his marriage to Jane was his first marriage. It also makes more sense with regard to his age at death, which would have been about 100 years old with the earlier birth date.

Some sources have Edward's death date as 30 Nov 1770, but this is the date the will of an Edward Corbin (probably his son) was proved in Baltimore County. However, that testator's wife was named Mary, and his children were John, Edward Jr., Eliakim, Rachel, Leah, and Mary. Only two Edward Corbin's (Edward and Edward Junr.) signed the Joppa Petition in 1768, and it was almost certainly the Edward who died in 1770 and his son who signed, which means our subject had already passed away. This view is also supported by the fact that the Edward who signed his 1770 will called himself "Edwd. Corbin Sr.," which presumably he would not have done were his father still alive.[6]

Edwin was born about 1685. He passed away before 1768.

Edward is obviously alive in 1758, not just 1750. Barnes makes a lot of mistakes in regard to dates. There is no mention of a daughter, Mary Jane. Thomas SLIGH is Edward's brother-in-law. I can't figure why Barnes put Edward as "possibly" a son, then lists him immediately afterwards as a son. Is there any doubt that he is a son? Nor can I figure why he lists William Wilkinson as "possibly" a son when a deed (see above) clearly shows him to be their son. Ditto for Edward.

Nicholas made the crossing with his first wife, Elizabeth, and daughters Elizabeth and Mary, so Alice was not their mother. Alice does appear to have been Edward's mother.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edward by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edward:
