Biography

Elizabeth Catherine Corbin was born in 1668 in Guernsey, a daughter of Nicholas Corbin and Elizabeth Kemp. In 1671, Nicholas Corbin immigrated to America with his wife, Elizabeth and two daughters, Eliz. and Mary. Nicholas is listed in the 1692 Baltimore County, Maryland, (Patapsco Hundred) as living near a Joseph Gostwick. ^[1]

Elizabeth's mother died when she and her sister, Mary were young, and her father married Alice Bryen, by whom he fathered two sons, Nicholas and Edward. ^[2]

Nicholas Corbin, Sr. died and was buried on December 31, 1696, in St. Paul's Parish, Baltimore county, Maryland. ^[3] In his Will, Nicholas named his wife, Alice, and daughters Eliza Roberts and Mary Gostwick, as well as his son Edward Corbin, in his Will. Elizabeth married Thomas Roberts, who was born before 1670, in England. Thomas was probably the son of Thomas Roberts, who died in 1709, in Baltimore county, Maryland, named in his Will "To son Thomas Francis (Roberts) and dau. Eliza:, 200 A., "Robert's Choyce" on n. side Patapsco R. on Jones Falls." ^[4]

Elizabeth Corbin was born in Guernsey, an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy that is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a British Crown Dependency.
