Biography

Flag of Virginia
Elinor (Corder) Huff was born in Virginia.
Elinor (Corder) Huff was a Tennessean.

Born: 2 Mar 1761 in Roanoke, Botetourt County, Virginia

  • Need source for actual birth date
Mary was probably born in Frederick County VA, sometime around 1764 when her mother, Elizabeth Branson, was disowned from the Quaker church for marrying John Corder, out of unity.
John and Elizabeth lived in Frederick County until at least 1772, when they leased Elizabeth's land (inherited from her father) to Andrew McKay. If the 1761 birth date can be verified (Grave stone? Bible?) then either John and Elizabeth were married much earlier than we think, or John may have had a prior marriage (the latter is unlikely since autosomal DNA matches between descendants of the Corder-Huff marriage and the Branson family support the connection to Elizabeth Branson). -- L. K. Henderson, Apr. 14, 2022

Died: 20 Mar 1842 in Del Rio, Cocke County, Tennessee

Married: John Nathan Huff on 6 Oct 1782 in Virginia

13 Children came from this union and they are the following...

Research Notes...

  1. Descendants told of the family having a piano brought from across the mountains. Did she play piano?
  2. According to a Family Story; in an attempt to prevent another pregnancy, her youngest child was not weaned until he was 11-13 years old
