Biography

Cornelis Gerretse: The first Newkirk born in America.

Cornelis Gerretse Van Nieuwkirk was born in Long Island about 1662. ^[1][2]

In 1686-87 he was a private in the Kingston Troop of Horse under Capt Hendrickus Beckman. ^[3]

There was a survey of 86 acres of land laid out for him on April 5, 1686, on the north side of the Esopus Kill in Ulster County, New York.

He died at Hurley, Ulster Co., NY between February 7 and March 4 1696.
