The State of Alabama Blount County. To any of the Judges of said state any Justices of the Peace of said county or other person legally authorized these are to authorize you or either of you to solemnize the rites of matrimony between William Blackwood and Tabitha Cornelius agreeably to the statute in such case made and provided Given at the office of the Clerk of the County Court of said County this the 20th day of May 1840. Know all men by these present that we William Blackwood and John Cornelius are held and firmly bound unto Arthur P. Bagly Governor of the State of Alabama for the time being and his successors in office in the [fiscal?] sum of two hundred dollars for the use of said state for the [true/due?] payment of which will and truly to be made we hereby bind ourselves and our heirs to jointly and severally firmly witness our hands and seals this 20th day of May 1840. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound William Blackwood hath prayed for License from the Clerk of the County of Blount County to be married to Tabitha Cornelius now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then the above obligation to be void else to remain in full force.
