I did find a James Cornett who enlisted in 3rd Kentucky Infantry(US) at age 18 and was captured and later re-enlisted at age 20 as a Veteran in 7 Ky Regiment.

I tried to find records of James Cornett in the 13 Kentucky Cavalry and didn't find him in the FOLD3 records. Both sides, US and CS, had a 13th Cavalry Regiment and I checked both. There were some Cornett in the CS regiment but the closest name was James Cormac.
