The son of William S. Coss and Emma Kate Justice, Clarence was born on 29 Apr 1906 in Leitersburg, Washington County, Maryland. [1] [2]

He married Nellie Elizabeth Mellot in 1926. [3] Their children: [4]

  1. Betty Elizabeth (Coss) Zittle (1928-1997)
  2. Phyllis Marie (Coss) Guessford Wilber (1934-2015)

Clarence passed away at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland on 26 Jun 1985. He is buried in Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Beaver Creek, Washington County, Maryland.[5]

"CLARENCE SAMUEL COSS, 79, of 1046 S Potomac St, died Wednesday at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Leitersburg, he was the son of the late William S and Emma Kate Justice Coss. His wife, Nellie F Coss, died in 1979.

He owned and operated Dual Gardens, formerly on Dual Highway, and was a truck farmer.

He was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren and the men's bible class. He was a member of the First Hose Fire Co..

He is survived by two daughters, Betty F Zittle and Phyllis Marie Guessford, both of Hagerstown; sister, Mildred Bostetter, Hagerstown; three brothers, Charles Coss, St James; Jacob Coss and Herbert Coss, both of Hagerstown; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Services Saturday at 1 pm at Minnich Funeral Home, E Wilson Blvd, the Rev Joseph M Quesenberry officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery." [8]
