Janet was child of John Coulter porter, carter, Stranraer b c1812 Ireland d c1853 and Mary Ann McDowall (McDouall and other variants) 1811-63 b Larg, Leswalt, m 1831 Stranraer. Mary Ann was child of James McDowall, farmer at Larg, thought b c1781 Leswalt son of James McDowall and thought Janet. Mary Ann McDowall had a brother James, thought James McDowall 1813-74 bone miller Inch (whose d cert gives McCaig as maiden surname of his mother Janet).
