James Manford Coulter was born on May 23, 1854 in Iowa to David Montgomery and Sarah (Bowman) Coulter. He married Jennie Belle Golden on November 14, 1877. They were the parents of Myrtle Ivy (1878-1959). They were divorced in 1892. James married Georgia Ann Fanning on July 9, 1893 in Gering, Nebraska. He was employed as a stock raiser and farmer, and later managed an I.O.O.F. home. He died on June 26, 1936 in Los Angeles, California.
