Biography

William was born in 1872. He is the son of Barney Countryman and Elizabeth Hardy. [1]

Notes

William arrived in the U.S. in 1878. He resided in Oswegatchie, New York in 1884 and became an American citizen in 1885. He married Marie Gilbo (Gabault/Guilbault) at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. He was Church of England and she was Roman Catholic. He and his family were residing in Edwardsburgh township, Grenville county, Ontario, in 1901, where he is listed as a farmer. They moved back across the St. Lawrence River to New York in 1906.[2]

Obituary

William Countryman, a former resident of Prescott, died in Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg, New York, last Thursday after an illness of three years. He was born in Prescott 61 years ago and is survived by his wife, two sons, William and Lawrence, of Ogdensburg, NY, and a daughter in Massena, NY. Mr. Countryman had moved to Northern New York 27 years ago and had been employed as a machinist at the New York Central Railway, Ogdensburg for a number of years. ~obituary, Prescott Journal, Sept. 14, 1933[3]
