According to one researcher:

"Information on Robert and Anna Courtney was received 21 Feb 1993 from Mrs Nancy T. Courtney 14609 Deerhurst Terrace, Silver Springs, MD 20906. She indicated the info she sent was from several sources of people who were researching the line, Bible records she has and commisioned [sic] studies. She listed 7 children: Francis b:1803, John b:1795, Christopher b:1780, Robert b:?, Maria b:? and 2 unnamed children.

"It is written in the histories of several branches of the family that Robert Courtney, who was born in England, was sent by the King, with a company of soldiers, to Ireland in 1785 to protect the Protestants in Ireland who were at that time threatened by the Catholics.

"At about the same time Anna Wilson, who was born in Scotland, and who was a nurse, went from Scotland to Ireland with her brother, Dr. Christopher Wilson, who was sent to serve with the same company as that of Robert Courtney.

"Robert Courtney and Anna Wilson married, remained in Ireland, and had five sons and two daughters."
