Candace Gregory
Joseph Alexander COURTNEY was playing near the Fort (Fort Arbuckle or Fort Cobb, according to two siblings) with other children. He got on the other side of a creek and a Commanche captured him. The other children screamed and ran home. The Commanche killed Joseph and according to my grandmother, Rose Lindberg PRATER GREGORY, the soldiers caught up with him and "he paid with his life." Joseph's father Henry D. COURTNEY kept the arrow that was used to kill his son over his door, according to an interview in the Indian Papers (needs reference).
