Henry Cowan ... [1]
On leaving school, Henry worked in the family bakery in Mt Eden in Auckland. With the onset of the Second World War, Henry joined the NZEF and saw service both in the Middle East and in the Pacific. Following WWII, Henry again worked for a short time in the bakery, before becoming a driver for New Zealand Road Services, the tour bus branch of the New Zealand Railways.
Henry and his wife Shirley moved from Auckland to Tauranga, where Henry was employed with the New Zealand Lumber Company as a long-distance truck driver. Henry finally retired at age 60.
With failing health in his later years, Henry moved into care at Hodgson House in Tauranga, where in 2001 he passed away aged 79 years.
