Biography

John was born on 16 March 1805 in Abbeville, South Carolina, USA. He was the son of Isaac Cowan and Jane Seawright.

When John was about 24 he married Sarah Brownlee Clinkscales in about 1830 in Old 96Th District, South Carolinas. The couple had 10 children: Isaac B. Cowan, James M. Cowan, Jennet Eleanor Cowan, Sophronia Caroline Cowan, Balaad V. Cowan, Martha A. Cowan, John Wesley Cowan, William Tully Cowan, Lewis F. Cowan and Mary Jane Cowan. Alt. Marriage

When John was about 55 he married Talltha Cumi Haddon in about 1861 in Abbeville, South Carolina, USA. The couple had 3 children: I. H. Cowan Cowan, Annie R. Cowan and J. h.. Cowan.

John died at the age of 69 on 27 December 1874 in Due West, Abbeville, South Carolina, USA.
