Biography

Geraldine Cowser Williams was born on December 28, 1929 in Grady Arkansas, to Freddie and Norvelle Cowser, both whom preceded her in death. She was the only child born to this union. At the age of 13 Geraldine, affectionately known as Gerri, and her parents relocated to California where she attended Hoover Jr. High, McClymonds and Union High School.

Gerri professed a love for Christ early in life. She united with North Oakland Baptist Church and later joined Market Street Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was also an honorary member of Mountain's Hope Community Worship Center. After 10 years of service Gerri retired from the United States Postal Service. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting and would often make Afghans for all of her family members. Gerri also loved cooking. Her sweet potato pies and delicious cakes were the best, bar none. Her home-made dinner rolls were so buttery and delicious. Gerri always cooked enough food for all. Ms. Gerri, as some called her, was very loving and caring and had no favorites. She had a very generous heart and didn't mind helping anyone; she would give her last to her children and grandchildren.

In her younger years she had a stern hand and did not take any sassiness. She would tell her family "she was a little piece of leather but well put together". That meant that she was not taking any mess from anybody and didn't care how old you were or how grown you thought you were.

She was preceded in life by her mother, Norvelle Ellingtion and Father Freddie Cowser, daughter Carol and son Clifford; her grandson Keith Baldridge and her great-grandson Kyn Davis.

Teddy, Artudo and Sparkle Tyson; John Jr., JaMar, Dhymyah, Joneisha, Jashlin and Jayvion Hampton. Aunts and Uncles JB and Justine Colbert; Morris Burns; and Catherine Claiborne and a host of great grandchildren and other relative and friends.^[1]
