Biography

Rachel (Cox) Meador lived in Appalachia, in Virginia (now West Virginia).

Rachel Cox the daughter of Daniel R. Cox and Jemima Knowles was born about 1833 in Virginia, later to become West Virginia. In 1850 Rachel is living with her parents in Mercer County, Virginia. Also living in the household were her siblings; Susan, Mathew, Sally, Oney and Ruth.[1]

Rachel married Lewis T. Meador about 1852 in Virginia. The 1860 census has Rachel and Lewis living in Mercer County, Virginia with the last name spelled as Meadows. They have five children as follows:

  • Daniel M. Meadows, 4 years[4]

Rachel and Lewis would have two more children:

  • Harriet Catherine Meador, born 1862.[7]
  • Henry Lee Meador, born 1865.[8]

Rachel Cox Meador passed away about 1866 and Lewis remarried in March 1867.
