Biography

William was born about 1598 in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, England. His parents were John Cox and Elizabeth Wallfurlong. William Came to Virginia at the age of 12 on the merchant vessel Godspeed, which arrived on 10 June 1610, under the headright system, sponsored by Matthew Edlow, Sr.

On September 10, 1628, William Cox, planter, received his "Ancient Planter" grant of 100 acres on the north bank of the James River, as recorded in Land Book 1, Part 1, page 89.

William Cox and Elizabeth were probably married about 1633 and had at least four children, two daughters and two sons.

William died before 14 December 1656, when Peter Lee patented 126 acres in Henrico County adjacent "land belonging to ye orphans of William Cox" (Henrico County, Virginia Patent Book 4, page 44).

Cox-509 seems to be a merge candidate with Cox-1146.

Wifes name is identical, and a merge is reasonable for Hutchins-69 & Hutchins-146.

Bio for Cox-509 is extensive, quite a history lesson, birth dates on the two profiles differ by 14 yrs. Actually a source on Cox-509 suggests birth date of 1598, which is listed on Cox-1146. and death dates are different. However it look like same family group. Number and names of children differ, but the 3 sons names are the same, Thomas, Henry, John Mary and Elizabeth should have profiles checked also. I'm not a manager of either Cox or Hutchins. Would be happy to assist on Cox if approved, Thanks in advance Marty

I agree, when you look at Cox-1155's dynamic tree and expand the paternal lines only it looks convincing.
